Weight gain on a primal diet can be hard or easy. It really depends on what primal foods you are incorporating and what balance of macronutrients you are eating.
(1) Butter and Meat
Have a lubrication formula every time you eat meat or an equal amount of butter and some kind of sauce. So, at least 1/2 a cup - 3/4 of a cup of butter with each meat meal (depending on your body size).
This is because when you eat meat it will burn fat, if you don’t eat fat on the side or meat fat, it will burn the fat off your body
(2) Lubrication Formula
Ingredients
1 - 2 Raw Eggs
2 - 4 ounces raw unsalted butter (4-8 TBSP)
1 - 2 TBSP Lemon Juice
1 - 2 TSP Unheated Honey
Instructions
All ingredients should be room temperature. Warm all ingredients in an 8- or 12-ounces jar, capped with the blender washer/ blades/base, immersed in a bowl of mildly hot water for 5 minutes. Blenderize on medium speed for 10 seconds. It is most effective when consumed with, or shortly after, a meat meal.
(3) Cream, Honey and Eggs
Raw cream, raw eggs, and honey. Very simple.
Ingredients
4 Eggs
4 ounces of cream (8 TBSP)
1 - 2 TBSP Honey
(4) Meat Sauce
Meat sauces really do make meat a lot easier to eat if you don’t like the taste or if you are trying to gain weight.
One that I like is the tomato sauce.
Ingredients
1/2 tomato
4 TBSP raw unsalted butter
1/2 Inch Cube of Raw Unsalted Cheese
1 Slice Raw Garlic
1/2 - 1 TBSP Chopped Red Onion
Favorite Herb To Your Taste (optional)
Instructions
If a thicker sauce is desired, slice a deep and wide cut in tomato. Over a bowl, gently squeeze tomato to remove juice and seeds. Drink tomato juice when thirsty. Blenderize all ingredients, except grated cheese, together in a 4-ounces jar on low speed for 10 seconds. Pour over meat and top with sprinkled grated cheese.
(5) Milk With Extra Cream
Milk on its own will gain weight, but the extra cream is very helpful for weight gain and to bind with toxins.
The problem with drinking low cream or skim milk is not necessarily that you won’t gain weight with it, but that it’s high in minerals and low in fat. Therefore, the toxins will store in the minerals, instead of the fat which will be excreted when you go on a weight loss or a detox.
How much cream to add
Add 4 TBSP of cream to 28 ounces (less than 1 litre) of milk.
(6) Honey
Honey helps you gain weight because it’s high in enzymes. 90% of honey is enzymes and only 10% is sugar if it is unheated under 93°.
Those enzymes will go in and help you digest your other foods like protein and fats.
How much honey
6 TBSP per pound of meat.
That doesn’t include the honey that you are using to digest your other foods like butter and cream.
(7) Enzymes
This ties into the last one. Enzymes from a variety of foods are important for digestion.
When you digest foods, it should be mostly bacterial, the hydrochloric acid activates enzymes in the stomach that are used for protein digestion. Once the protein is broken to smaller particles, then the bacteria can eat it.
The l gallbladder releases bile produced by the liver to break down fat because fat is very hard to break down. From that point, the bacteria can feed on and break down the fats.
So, digestion should be mainly bacterial, but I’m not sure the exact percentage.
Although, digestive enzymes from the following foods can help break down fats and proteins to aid in weight gain.
Pineapple (bromelain)
Aids in digestion of protein by breaking proteins down into amino acids and peptides, which can be absorbed easier by the gut/bacteria.
Can be applied topically to break down dead cells on the skin or remove growths.
Papaya (papain)
Papaya contains proteases known as papain, which can also digest proteins.
Unheated honey (previously stated)
Contains amylase, which breaks down sugars.
Peptidase, which breaks down proteins into amino acids to be digested easier.
Mangoes & Bananas
Both of these contain amylase, which helps break down sugars.
Raw Dairy: milk, butter, cream
Raw dairy contains enzymes such as: lactase, protease and lipase, which breaks down lactose sugar, protein and fat.
Kiwi
Contains actinidain that breaks down protein.
Ginger
Zingibain which breaks down protein.
Avocado
Contains lipase, which breaks down fat.
(1) Eggs
Eggs help you lose weight and they are incredibly easy to digest, so they will give your digestive system a rest at the same time.
You would need to eat 25 - 50 eggs per day to not lose weight, depending on your body size. For Aajonus, he has to eat 25 to maintain his body weight.
This is only the case when you are eating eggs alone and not eating any other foods.
It might be helpful to drink some vegetable juice because the eggs alone will cause overacidity. It is recommended to have 8 - 16 ounces every 3 days when doing eggs alone. If you are doing milk as well you don’t necessarily need the vegetable juice.
Also, when doing eggs alone it might be helpful to have small amounts of either: milk, butter or cream to aid the mouth dryness the eggs will cause.
You can have one tablespoon of milk every 20 minutes to prevent mouth dryness and/or put coconut cream + honey on your lips.
(2) Meat Without Fat
Eat meat without fat, except maybe a little bit, so you don’t dry out.
The protein turns into protein sugar (pyruvate) when you eat it. It also burns fat as energy, so if it’s eaten without fat you will burn your body fat.
You can also eat eggs at the same time to burn off the excess body fat. Again, eggs burn fat because they digest and are utilized as energy so easily that your body can’t build anything with eggs alone or it is difficult to build.
(3) Less Cream and Butter
You can simply lower your quantities of all foods. You don’t necessarily have to do a crazy restriction diet to lose weight.
One example would be, reducing the amount of added cream to your milk or stop adding cream to your milk.
Or you could just eat less butter with your meat, rather than eating 1/2 cup or so with your meat meal (depending upon body size) you can just eat one tablespoon of butter.
(4) Goat Milk
Difference between goats milk and cows milk. Goats produce a lot of proteins and hormones that cause hormone precursors for adrenaline. If you are a thin person, you should not look at goats milk. Stay away from goats milk.
If you are overweight, goats milk is fine, goats milk is fine. If you have a sugar problem, if you're diabetic, goats milk is wonderful.
Cows milk is always the best, calms nerves and relaxes. Has anybody ever heard or seen of a relaxed goat?
Therefore, goats milk will make it extremely hard to gain weight because it increases your adrenaline, which burns hormones that are made of fat.
Furthermore, goats milk is more watery and less creamy and that makes it harder to drink more calories of it.
Protein has 4 calories per gram, carbohydrates have 4 calories per gram, fat has 9 calories per gram.
Therefore, it should make sense that eating fat would be the easiest way to gain weight because it’s the highest in calories.
This is true to an extent, but it’s not necessarily that simple. Many people when they start eating a zero carbohydrate diet with even large amounts of fat go into a ketogenic state and start burning their own body fat. Also, without insulin from carbohydrates, it doesn’t always signal your body to store fat or to be constantly hungry all day.
Whereas on a typically diet you are constantly eating carbohydrates, which will spike and lower your blood sugar throughout the day making you constantly hungry and never satiated.
Also, when you are eating raw foods you will become satiated much easier because the nutrients are intact and bioavailable. When you cook foods they become nutrient deficient, so you crave more food afterwards because they make you nutrient deficient.
Lastly, cooked foods usually do taste better to a certain extent. Of course, something like well done meat is totally dry and tasteless. But when you cover it in spices, and sauces or cook a steak with a sear on the outside and cover it in spices or sauces it will taste better. Or fast food, which is covered in sugars and additives to make you addicted and bread and oils, of course it’s going to taste good, I am not going to argue that.
Yet, raw foods taste good naturally. Compare eating a raw steak, fresh unfrozen because freezing not only degrades nutritional value, but it degrades the taste, especially for raw liver. Compare that raw steak to a cooked, well done steak. Or compare a cooked tomato to a raw tomato, or a cooked dry egg to a raw egg.
To me all of these foods taste better.
In summary, this is why on a raw primal diet you need to have a different strategy for weight gain.
I have personally found that drinking cow's milk has caused drastic weight gain for me.
This may be because of the calories, the mixture of protein/fats/carbs, insulin or hormones like igf1.
Additionally, when I started drinking cow's milk I stopped drinking goats' milk at the same time, which resulted in a pretty drastic change over time.
Additionally, making sure you are eating lots of fat with your meat and honey as well to aid in protein/fat digestion will 100% result in weight gain over time.
